In the book Al-Adab Al-Mufrad by Imam Al-Bukhari, Umar bin Khattab (RA) said: Don’t let your love burden you, and don’t let your hate destroy you!

When loving, don’t abandon your wisdom, for hearts can change. Those who light ten candles will have no finger to bite in regret!

When hating, leave room for reconciliation, for situations can change. Many people, when quarreling, throw thorns on the road and return barefoot.

Don’t destroy all bridges, for one day you may need one of them. And don’t build a wall too high, for one day you may need to climb it!

The Prophet Muhammad (alaihis salaam) reminds us: “Love your beloved moderately, perhaps someday you will dislike him, hate whom you hate moderately, perhaps he becomes your beloved someday” (Sunan Tirmidhi)

It is important to be balance in our emotions, to love and hate with moderation. And that people’s feelings and circumstances can change, and we should be prepared for that.

Key Takeaways:

1. Love and hate should be practiced in moderation to avoid excessive emotions (love or hate).

2. People’s emotions and circumstances can shift, so it’s essential to be prepared.

3. Strive for balance in relationships and emotions to maintain healthy connections with others.
